This may be a false error code due to a power on password being set. Later versions of the Reference diskette will not produce this false error when advanced diagnostics are run on a PS/2 when the user has a password set. 160 * PS/2 - planar ID not recognized (Often, the I/O channel riser card is not firmly plugged in) 161 Systems options not set (run SETUP) 162 Systems options not set (run SETUP) 162 error during post. Many customers are experiencing this error code when booting if the 5.25" External Disk Drive is not powered on before the system unit. The 5.25" External Drive must be powered on before the system unit. 162 error during post. This may be caused by installing the 5.25" External Diskette drive cable backwards. The cable which runs from the 5.25" External drive adapter/a to the connecter box in the drive B position must be installed so that the colored stripe is towards the back of the machine. Also ensure that when the connector has been installed that it is on all the pins on the connecter box. It is possible to miss pins because there is not 'key' to prevent the user from shifting the cable connecter. 163 Time & date not set (run SETUP) 163 * PCC - Real-time clock not updating 164 Memory Size Error (run SETUP). 165 * PS/2 - systems options not set - card ID mismatch (run SETUP) 165 error message will be displayed on a model PS/2 70 or 80 after the machine is booted with version 1.03 or 1.04 of the reference diskette that does not have all the Adapter Definition Files (.adf) required by the machine. This problem will be fixed by a future release of the reference diskette. 166 * PS/2 - card busy error (NAC adapter failure) 167 * PS/2 - clock not updating 169 * Set Configuration / Features 170 * PCC - LCD not in use when suspended (possible operator error) 171 * PCC - Base 128K checksum failure 171 I/O Card Failure / Battery 172 * PCC - Diskette active when suspended (possible operator error) 172 Static RAM 173 * PCC - Real-time clock RAM verification error 173 * PCC - Diskette in use when suspended. 174 * PCC - LCD configuration changed (possible operator error) 181 Unknown Adapter 191 82385 Cache Failure 194 System Board Memory 199 User indicated configuration not correct. ----------------------------------------------------------------- 201 Memory test failed - Data miscompare, parity error or bad adapter. 0yzz = 1st 64K bank (000-064K) 5yzz = 6th 64K bank (320-384K) 1yzz = 2nd 64K bank (064-128K) 6yzz = 7th 64K bank (384-448K) 2yzz = 3rd 64K bank (128-192K) 7yzz = 8th 64K bank (448-512K) 3yzz = 4th 64K bank (192-256K) 8yzz = 9th 64K bank (512-576K) 4yzz = 5th 64K bank (256-320K) 9yzz =10th 64K bank (576-640K) If you have a PC-I ( 64K motherboard ), the "y" code identifies the bad 16K bank: x0zz = 1st 16K bank (00-16K) x8zz = 3rd 16K bank (32-48K) x1zz = 2nd 16K bank (16-32K) xCzz = 4th 16K bank (48-64K) The "zz" code gives the bad data bit (individual chip): xy00 = parity bit xy10 = data bit 4 xy01 = data bit 0 xy20 = data bit 5 xy02 = data bit 1 xy40 = data bit 6 xy04 = data bit 2 xy80 = data bit 7 xy08 = data bit 3 xyAA = empty bank - check switches xyFF = empty bank - check switches For example, the error code 4810 201 would be interpreted: 4 = 5th 64K bank ( if the motherboard had 256K installed, then the 5th bank is the first on an expansion board ) 8 = don't care ( applies only to 16-64K PC-I motherboards ) 10 = data bit 4 ( fifth chip after the parity chip ) 202 Memory address error (Lines 0-15) 203 * PS/2 - memory address error or refresh failure (Lines 16-23) 204 * PS/2 - relocated memory (run diagnostics again) 205 * PS/2 - CMOS error 207 * PS/2 - ROM failure 211 * PS/2 - base 64K on I/O channel failed / Put memory into machine! 215 * PS/2 - base 64K on daughter card 2 card failed (Card possibly plugged into the wrong slot!) 216 * PS/2 - base 64K on daughter card 1 card failed (Card possibly plugged into the wrong slot!) 221 * PS/2 - ROM to RAM mapping error (an error occurred while copying ROM BIOS to RAM; this error 'latches', and will not go away until the memory is fixed, and SETUP run). 225 Memory may be wrong type, defective, or not fast enough. ----------------------------------------------------------------- 3xx Various keyboard, keyboard cable, or keyboard controller errors 301 Keyboard did not respond to software reset correctly or a stuck key failure was detected. If a stuck key was detected, the scan code for the key is displayed (as "301 xx", or "xx-0301"). 301 error during post of 50/60/70 or 80 may be caused by having the keyboard plugged into the mouse port. The two ports look exactly the same. The keyboard port is denoted by a raised icon of the keyboard above the keyboard port. The mouse and keyboard ports on the 8530 and 8525 are functionally the same so either component can be plugged into either port. 301/8602 error during post will occur if the machine has been powered on within 1 minute after having powered the machine off. The user must wait for the machine to settle at least 2 minutes before powering on. The DASDDRVR.SYS device driver is on the Reference Diskettes version 1.02 and higher. To install this driver first boot DOS and then insert the Reference Diskette in drive A and type "A:install". DASDDRVR.SYS is required for DOS 3.3 and DOS 4.0. XX 301 error during post. The XX is some hexadecimal value that represents the assigned keyboard key value. This error may be caused by some object resting on the keyboard. If more than one key is depressed during POST then error 8602 will also appear. 302 User indicated error from the keyboard test. 303 Keyboard or system board error 304 * PS/2 - system board error 304 * PCC - keyboard cable not attached 305 * PS/2 - keyboard +5v error (bad 3A fuse) 305 post error with continuous beeping may occur intermittently when booting a PS/2 50/60 or 80.
